Pebworth and District W.I.

Welcome to Pebworth and District WI

Pebworth and District WI is a lively branch of the largest women’s organisation in the UK. This year it is celebrating its 74th birthday, having been formed in 1951, and it continues to thrive with over 40 members of all ages. As well as the friendship, the support and fun which our members enjoy there is so much more to be gained from joining our WI. This year could be your opportunity to:
  • Enjoy fascinating speakers on all sorts of subjects every month – see the programme we have booked for 2025/6
  • Learn a new craft, or a new skill either online or in face-to-face practical workshops run by the county federation. Our own members have recently shared their skills - the Christmas wreath making continues to be very popular.
  • Campaign on global and national concerns. Having access to a quarter of a million women the WI is often consulted for its views by government agencies. Recently we have brought attention to the need to use less plastic, the plight of those trafficked, the women abused by domestic violence, the effects of autism on women and girls, the huge concerns regarding pollution of our waterways and the action needed for climate change.
  • Support local charities such as the West Midlands Air Ambulance, the Shakespeare Hospice, the Meon Vale Foodbank, the Bidford Dementia Café and many more.
  • To help less advantaged in other countries. Our Knit and Natter group is supporting women and girls in Sierra Leone through the Kori Project, providing knitted items such as blankets and clothing for newborns and collecting underwear for teenagers in danger of assault.
  • To contribute to our community by clearing the verges and ditches of rubbish every year with our annual Spring litter pick, by providing teas at Party in the Park and at the Open Gardens weekend.
  • To make new friends and socialise by competing against local or county WIs either in the skittles team or on the quiz teams, by joining a book club or by visiting the theatre or places of interest.

If any or all of the above appeal and you would like to know more about the WI please contact President Jenny McLeish  at  [email protected]  or  Secretary Julie Wilson at     [email protected].
Guests are always welcome at a meeting.    £4 for a fun, interesting evening with a delicious tea could well encourage you to join us.
